  • Mariner throttle issue.

Hi Folks, I have a 1983 Mariner 80HP Outboard, that has a throttle issue. Acceleration is not too bad from a dead stop to full throttle, however as soon as I move the lever back ever so slightly to slow down, the motor slows down very rapidly and almost puts me through the windshield. I have tried lubricating the control line and any moving parts I can find on the motor but it still does the same thing. I am looking to solve this problem so if anyone can help me I sure would appriciate it.

    Thanks,

    DL

Hi, you posted awhile ago but I'll let you know what it might be in case the problem still exists. Check the throttle mechanical control linkage at the motor-housing to carbs for mis-adjustment. There's also a good chance the problem may be within the helm control unit though generally the throttle-up/down are activated from the same lever and cable.
