  • Help!!! Restoring old paint..

I have a 14' boat from the early 80's(blue). The paint looks like it was never taken care of and i am currently using 3m compound/wax to try and de-oxidize. when i apply the compound/wax it literaly turns a black colour and i go though so many rags because they all go a thick black and it seems never ending...is what i am doing correct or is there a better method??

Its better to make experiences by yourself, take it to color shop. They can restore it in well manner and efficiently. Also they can provide a typical shinning look which you never can produce it.

WinnBoy, past experience with older f/g boats has taught me that the chalkiness you describe is often a precurser to osmosis - the reaction of fiberglass to UV radiation from the Sun. I agree with Howard Sterndrive in that you might consider wet sanding and re-finishing.
